He has told the podcast of why he stepped out of that post and into a community director role: "As the club has grown, I found that my role as a sort of executive figure, and sort of sub-board level, was less and less necessary. Michael Williamson the new CEO and so many new members of staff… we just keep hiring people left right and centre, which is brilliant because we are growing and we desperately needed to do that stuff.
"But I was getting loads of emails from people being like, ‘Why haven’t you signed Kevin De Bruyne’, [and] ‘Could you play Ross Common in a friendly because I’m going there‘."
