Maurizio Sarri’s future at Chelsea has become increasingly uncertain following his side’s humiliating 6-0 Premier League defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad over the weekend.
However, performances on the pitch do not appear to be the only thing that the Italian’s superiors are starting to question.
The Breakdown
According to the Daily Mirror, the Stamford Bridge hierarchy are unhappy with Sarri’s treatment of Callum Hudson-Odoi as they desperately try to tie the 18-year-old down to a new contract amid interest from Bayern Munich.
And while the Chelsea board by no means are faultless for Hudson-Odoi refusing to put pen to paper on a new deal and the disastrous season the club are having overall, Sarri has to take most of the responsibility when it comes to the winger’s feeling of discontent at the Bridge.
It is absolutely criminal that the former Napoli manager has failed to give him genuine chances in the Premier League when considering how dreadful both Willian and Pedro have been.
There seems to be a glass ceiling between Hudson-Odoi and the starting XI, and Sarri’s bosses are right to question why that is the case with the team desperately needing someone like the England U19 international on their right flank.
Sarri looks like a dead man walking, and his handling of Hudson-Odoi has done him no favours.
