Journalist Charles Watts has revealed that Arsenal are not planning to take any action after it was revealed that there was a human error as VAR awarded Brentford’s equaliser at the Emirates.
What happened against Brentford?
Arsenal dropped points as they drew at home to Brentford, with Ivan Toney’s equaliser cancelling out Leandro Trossard’s opener, but it has now been revealed that there was a VAR error as Toney’s goal was checked for offside.
The check during the game took a number of minutes before ruling in favour of Brentford, but it later emerged that VAR official Lee Mason forgot to draw offside lines in the buildup to the goal.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Watts revealed that Arsenal saw no benefit in making a formal complaint following the decision, but claimed that something needs to be done about the quality of refereeing in the league.
“My understanding Arsenal aren’t going to make a formal complaint over this,” he stated.
“I think that thought process is look, it’s done now, we just want to focus on Manchester City, and fair enough that is right, but the Premier League for them they should be looking at this and demanding answers because of what happened this weekend because it’s an embarrassment to them.”
Right to feel aggrieved
Mikel Arteta was adamant in the aftermath of the game that the wrong decision had been given, stating that the equaliser was “offside,” and he has every right to feel aggrieved.
It is not the first time this season that Arsenal have been on the wrong end of a VAR decision, with Lee Mason also ruling out a goal from Gabriel Martinelli against Manchester United, a decision that the refereeing body PGMOL later apologised for.
PGMOL have contacted the club to attempt to explain the decision, but with the club chasing a Premier League title, the dropped points as a result of the decision will be even more frustrating for The Gunners.
